Our leather cup sleeves have been tested using a wide range of products from different companies and become pleasantly warm to the touch when used on hot beverages such as coffee or tea. Our sleeves were originally designed to fit the 12oz compostable cups found in most company office break rooms (ours included) and have been made to fit all of the available cup sizes which can be purchased from Starbucks, as well as all Hot Cups from Dunkin Donuts.

Each sleeve is made from Full Grain Vegetable Tanned Leather which is the highest quality and most durable cut of the leather you can purchase. Full Grain Leather is the strongest of all cuts of leather, it retains and displays the history of the animal – the scars, scrapes, rough spots, and character that is unique to each animal. We use Full Grain Leather because it is the toughest and most rugged cut of leather available and will last for decades.

Here at Northeast Craft Goods we don’t add in any artificial dyes or colors to our cup sleeves. The color of the sleeve is unique and is determined by the leather itself. We can’t tell what color the sleeve will become until we start the conditioning process with 100% Pure Neatsfoot Oil which is a natural preservative for leather articles subjected to rugged use and outdoor exposure. Once we have applied the first light coating of Neatsfoot Oil the leather reveals which color it will naturally become. We then work with the leather to draw out that beautiful unique color by adding subsequent light coatings of Neatsfoot Oil until the leather is fully conditioned. The colors range from an almost golden light tan to a deep dark brown and an example of this can be seen in the photo gallery above.

Our leather cup sleeves embody our commitment to our planet and to the environment. Over 90% of all recycled waste ends up getting dumped into a landfill. Plastic and synthetic products break down over time into micro plastics and are harmful to the environment and every living being on this planet. By creating a high quality product which is made from natural materials and is intended to last for generations, our hope is that our sleeves will replace the disposable and synthetic products which are currently available for consumers.

There is a 2 day lead time on all orders: these products are hand crafted through a process which has over 30 steps from start to finish. Each sleeve is hand tooled which requires adding water to the leather (casing the leather) so that it will accept the tooling and retain the basket-weave designs. The leather must then be allowed to dry fully before proceeding to the next steps of the craft. Our drying process is done overnight to ensure that all of the water has left the leather before conditioning and coloring with Pure Neatsfoot Oil. It takes between 2 to 3 hours of labor to create a single finished sleeve. Each sleeve has had a light coating of Moobuzz® applied to make the sleeves as water resistant as possible without using any chemicals.

If the leather cup sleeves do get wet simply dry it off with a hand towel or paper towel and allow it to air-dry in a room temperature environment. Please do not attempt to accelerate the drying process using a hair dryer or any other type of product which emits heat as heat soaking the leather can cause it to crack.

Please note that this product is made from leather and it must be treated as such. If left on the dash of a hot car in the sun or left outside exposed to the elements it will become damaged just as any other hand made leather goods would be.

Each sleeve has a lifetime guarantee – if you encounter any issues with our product please contact us directly for assistance!

All of our leather is sourced from vegetable tanned hides which are a byproduct of the meat industry. We pride ourselves on transforming each piece of leather into a beautiful, handcrafted, functional, and durable product which will last for decades. All of our leather cup sleeves are crafted individually by our in-house Leather Artisan in Waltham MA. All of our sleeves are made here in the USA and none of our sleeves are created by other entities or overseas.

Our leather cup sleeves have been tested on all of the available Starbucks cups, both hot and cold, from 12oz – 20oz and fit in the exact same places as the disposable sleeves they offer in their locations.

While originally intended to be used with hot coffee cups, we have also tested with all of the Starbucks iced coffee cups as well. The MooBuzz top coat provides an all natural water resistance thanks to the beeswax content in the product and we have confirmed that cold cups which sweat will not adversely impact our product.

We recommend reapplying beeswax or MooBuzz once a year or if the product has been soaked and the protection has worn off. Please note that the MooBuzz product also contains Pure Neatsfoot Oil which will darken the leather when applied. If you would like to avoid darkening the leather we would suggest rubbing Beeswax into the product with your fingers as this will create enough friction to massage it into the leather and restore the water resistance. You can allow it to sit for a few minutes before buffing the excess off with a cloth.

PRO TIP: Use a horsehair brush or similar brush to shine the leather up once you have wiped off the excess!
