Northeast Craft Goods grew organically out of a need for a product to solve a problem: the compostable coffee cups we were provided to use with the coffee machines in the office were too hot to the touch when freshly filled up! We ended up juggling our cup from hand to hand, trying to avoid burning our fingers and spilling hot coffee all over ourselves while we headed back to our workstations. I thought that there must be something we could use but the only types of products I could find which were readily available were either plastic/synthetic, disposable, or poorly reviewed/extremely expensive.

My father in-law had an old set of vintage leathercraft tools which had unfortunately rusted in the last few decades. I spent a week or more stripping off the rust without damaging the metal any further and then ordered some scrap leather to test with. I set out to create a a coffee sleeve which was thick enough to protect your fingers from the heat radiating through the compostable cups and after a few attempts had created a viable product! While functional, the original cup sleeves left very much to be desired from an aesthetic standpoint and I went online for a crash course in leather tooling by hand. I continued to make sleeve after sleeve, purchasing greater and greater quantities of leather and refining my craft until I was able to make a product I was proud of. While I was working on honing my craft my coworkers saw what I was doing and informed me that they were interested in picking up a sleeve themselves! Several of my friends encouraged me to make a business out of it so that they could purchase the products I was coming up with and thus Northeast Craft Goods was born.

Our mission is to create handcrafted functional products out of natural resources which will last for generations. We prefer to use high quality full grain leather which is a byproduct of the meat industry. We pride ourselves on transforming each piece of leather into a beautiful, handcrafted, functional, and durable product.

Our products embody our commitment to our planet and to the environment. Over 90% of all recycled waste ends up getting dumped into a landfill. Plastic and synthetic products break down over time into micro plastics and are harmful to the environment and every living being on this planet. By creating a high quality product which is made from natural materials and is intended to last for generations, our hope is that our products will replace the disposable and synthetic products which are currently available for consumers.
